Along the way to Noss, we explore the fascinating coastline of
Bressay. Weather permitting, Dunter III goes inside sea caves and
hidden coves - and through the magnificent rock arch of The Giant's
Leg. You'll discover what the climate was like 370 million years
ago, see traces of ancient glaciers, earthquakes and volcanic explosions,
and hear about Vikings, the Press Gang and deserted villages.
The boat is equipped with underwater video cameras to give stunning
views of marine life beneath the waves, with display screens on
deck and in the warm saloon. There's also a small galley with self-service
tea and coffee available!
Your cruise also includes a visit to a seal colony and you'll probably
meet Harbour Porpoises. No promises, but we have seen Minke and
Killer Whales several times!
But the highlight of this cruise is the extraordinary seabird city
of Noss National Nature Reserve. Standing at 592 feet (181m), the
Noup of Noss has to rank as Britain's best bird cliff, for number
and variety of species, spectacular scenery and ease of access.
National Geographic photographer Franz Lanting has described it
as "A world-class cliff". But words can't do justice to the amazing
sights and sounds (and smells!) - you just have to witness it for
yourself. Meeting 20,000 Gannets, 39,000 Guillemots, 8,000 Kittiwakes
and hundreds of Puffins, Razorbills, Shags and Black Guillemots
will remain etched in your mind forever...
